This bread knife looks so menacing and sharp we could swear our testing loaf offered to cut itself.

Black as night this is the longest of the range and one of the few bread knives we currently do. Makes light work of all manner of bready products as you would expect, it does look odd having this black knife cutting through your lovely loaf of bread. It has a really good weight to it and just feels fun when using due to its odd and assassin like looks.

Performance: 3 out of 5

These knives are all about chic looks and minimalist Danish style. Aimed primarily at the home cook with an eye for style, these are great knives for prepping food at home. Because they're made of slightly softer stainless steel than some of our other Japanese knives they are not ideal in a professional kitchen as they would require regular sharpening if used dozens of times a day.

Bit of a Marmite range this one. You either love them or hate them. We think they are visually very striking but even here they have split the team. Paired with the white magnetic knife holder they make a stunning statement on any kitchen wall. They actually look much better in the flesh too than the pictures make out with a stylish matt black finish and just a slither of the cutting edge exposed.

Comfort: 3 out of 5

These knives are one piece forged stainless steel and as a result are quite heavy. The handle is solid and made from the same material as the blade and thickens out from the bolster of the knife into a rounded square shape. If using a pinch grip then they are perfectly comfy.

Durability: 3 out of 5

As knives go there is not much to go wrong here. They are made from a single piece of solid stainless steel so there is nothing to break or damage! The coating will scratch over time and with use but that's just the nature of the beast. The softer stainless steel means that they will need to them more often to keep a good edge.

Ease of care: 5 out of 5

Because they're made from a single piece of stainless steel care is easy! Just wipe, dry and store (Don't forget you can get a brilliant white Stelton knife rack for these). Doesn't get much easier than that. Just take care with the coating if you want them to keep their chic looks for a long time.

Value for money: 5 out of 5

You can get a whole matching set of striking looking knives and magnetic holder for a great price. If you want your kitchen to stand out from the crowd then these are the knives for you. If you are a pro chef who will be punishing your knives with a lot of hard daily use then you may want to consider one of our Japanese chef knives instead as they are made with a harder steel.

What you get

Matt black sexy box with the red Stelton logo on it. Inside you'll find your knife wrapped up and secured by wire ties to the backing board. Bit of a fiddle to get them out but worth it when you do.

All our knives also come with free blue plasters just in case you're not ready for the sharpness! If you intend to use your knives regularly then we don't advise you to use the boxes for day to day storage, get a magnetic knife rack instead.
