Nimble and well balanced with a classic hammer finish, the mid sized gyuto is a perfect all rounder to add to your collection or pick as a first Japanese chef knife.

The hammer finish on every one is unique and you'll enjoy looking at the knife almost as much as you'll love using it!


The fit and finish are definitely a good standard and the sharpness out of the box is good and should you wish to, you could hone it a little further to really bring out the true sharpness. It's a nimble and reasonably light knife that's a joy to use. 


The hammer finish and unpolished steel is unique to each blade and we think it's a nice and subtle look that doesn't overdo it and combines nicely with the classic cherrywood handle but on closer inspection the detail on the blade edge and those hammer dimples really come to the fore and you'll realise what a nice looking knife you've got in your hand.


Light, well balanced and with the half tang cherrywood handle it's a comfortable and easy to use knife for a wide range of jobs.


The stainless clad aogami super should retain its edge well and it's reasonably easy to maintain and sharpen so the knife will last as long as you want it to and perform time after time. 

Ease of care

The aogami super steel along the cutting edge is reactive and will develop a lovely patina as it reacts with your food and moisture but apart from the normal care instructions it's a nice easy knife to keep. 

Value for money

You're getting a classic Japanese chef knife with a very popular and performant steel used in the cutting edge and one that's light and well balanced and great value for money.
