OUL Sakai Damascus Santoku Purchase options

Quite a long santoku at over 180mm it's ideal for someone who prefers the santoku style but just wants a little more knife than a traditional santoku tends to offer.

First Impressions

The entire range performs well right out of the box making it it a great choice for those who want to jump right in and start cooking as soon as they open the box!

Beauty

The dimpled hammer finish combined with the damascus style layering showing off the core steel along the length of the blade looks great and stands out without being over the top.

Paired with a full tang, riveted Western style handle each knife mixes Japanese and Western styling nicely.

In Hand

The heavier full tang handle is comfortable and familiar to those not used to the lighter Japanese wa handle style but the knives in this range remain well balanced and nimble while the handle shape is well finished and proportioned.

Durability

This entire range is a great choice if you want no hassle performance. The VG10 core steel takes and retains a good edge so you'll have no trouble getting the maximum level of performance out of this knife.

Ease of Care

If you want low hassle, easy care then the VG10 core and stainless cladding are about as easy as it gets to look after. Just rinse and dry your knives after use and follow our general care tips and you're good!

Our Verdict

This is a great range for value and performance. They're priced competitively and offer good sharpness and durability and aesthetically the hammer finish and edge layering combined with the Western style handle are a lovely pairing.

If you're looking for a great first knife choice or a new addition to your collection at a great price then you won't go wrong with this.

The OUL Sakai damascus is essentially the same knife range as the Sakai Takayuki Moonlit Waves with a minor difference in the kanji style and markings so if one is out of stock you can buy from the other range.
