Our in-depth range review

First Impressions

The Ginga range is made for Hatsukokoro by Yauji Yoshihiro who is already a top class blacksmith despite his young age and well regarded for the high quality of his knives and damascus finishes in particular.

The Ginga boasts a thin profile, flat grind and top class performance.

Beauty

The high polish on the blade is stunning and the suminagashi damascus finish is of course unique on each knife. If looks are important in your buying considerations, the Ginga range is certainly one to catch the eye!

In Hand

The blade finishes are excellent and the spine and heel have been very subtly rounded to add to the comfort of using the knives in a pinch grip and for general use.

Durability

ATS-34 is a steel made by Hitachi and has been hardened to high HRC of 64-65 in this range to be robust and durable with excellent edge retention properties while being engineered to be easier to sharpen than some similarly hard carbon steels.

Ease of Care & Maintenance Tips

ATS34 is widely used in outdoor knives because it's incredibly robust and easy to sharpen so it's easy to care for if you just follow our normal care instructions.

Our Verdict

A classy and great looking range from an excellent blacksmith.

If you're looking for a thin overall profile, easy care and sharpening but high levels of edge retention the Ginga range is most definitely one to add to your shortlist.
