First Impressions

The SLD is a great all rounder, it's robust and the high hrc (apx 65) of the core steel means edge retention if very good and the lightweight handle combines to make an easy to use knife that doesn't have particularly high care requirements like some others.

Beauty

The SLD is mesmerising, it's so subtle and understated with the kurouchi nashiji finish paired with that slightly oversized long octagonal laurel wood handle.

There's depth to its looks but not something that screams for attention. As with many Konosuke knives, the devil is in the detail and the finish is superbly done all round.

In Hand

Fantastic, we're massive fans of the slightly longer than typical khii handles fitted to Konsuke knives. They just have a nice feel in hand and while they're octagonal, they're slightly taller on two sides so they're not quite equal on every side which again just makes a small but noticeable improvement on the feel in hand.

They're also very light so the blade feels light and nimble in hand and it's a great handling knife that's a pleasure to use.

Durability

The SLD steel is treated to a high hrc so will retain an edge well and with the stainless cladding steel makes it pretty easy to care for overall.

Ease of Care & Maintenance Tips

The core steel is semi stainless SLD so is reactive but on a fairly low level so when combined with the stainless cladding it's pretty easy to keep the knife in great order.

Normal care instructions apply and we'd definitely recommend pairing this with one of the Konosuke saya or storing it on a magnetic rack of stand.

Our Verdict

Sensationally beautiful with a top class fit and finish these are rightly considered another exceptional knife collection from Konosuke.
