SG2

SG2 steel, also known as Super Gold 2 or R2 steel, is a high-performance powdered metallurgy tool steel renowned for its exceptional properties in cutlery and knife making. Developed by Takefu Special Steel Co. Ltd. in Japan, SG2 steel is composed of a combination of high-carbon content and added elements such as chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium.

This steel's composition results in outstanding edge retention, impressive hardness, and remarkable corrosion resistance, making it highly desirable for professional chefs and knife enthusiasts alike. The powder metallurgy process used in its production ensures a fine and uniform distribution of carbides throughout the steel matrix, contributing to its superior wear resistance and edge stability.

The fine-grained structure of SG2 steel allows for precise sharpening and edge refinement, enabling knives made from this steel to maintain their sharpness for extended periods, even under heavy use. Additionally, its corrosion-resistant properties make SG2 steel suitable for use in challenging kitchen environments where exposure to moisture and acidic foods is common.
