About this range

First Impressions

The Silver 3 as you might expect from a blacksmith of Satoshi san's skill has a beautifully finished and consistent edge running through the collection and it's clear the attention to detail, fit and finish are all top notch.

There are two "versions" of the silver 3 knife - both blades are exactly the same and the one with kanji on one side is directly from Nakagawa san and the version with mutliple handle styles and the large hand chiseled kanji is a collaboration with our friends at Hatsukokoro to provide a wider range of handle and saya choices but the blade is the same throughout the range.

Depending on supply, we can't guarantee which version is available at a given time so if you'd like to check first please contact us.

Beauty

The migaki finish across these blades is very refined and has a subtle beauty and consistency that is easy to appreciate and enjoy.

Paired with a range of classic octagonal wa handlesi nvarying materials and limited edition colourways, we'd say the blades are understated but if you're looking for a depth to their beauty, a quality finish and a wide choice of handle styles then you're in luck!

In Hand

One thing that's immediately obvious when this knife is in hand is that the quality and skill shown in the migaki finish and the consistent grind also extends to the spine and heel of the knife where they've been ever so slightly rounded which makes a big difference in comfort when using a pinch grip in particular.

It shows a quality and attention to detail that extends to all aspects of the knife.

Durability

The silver 3 core is comparable to many carbon steels for sharpness and edge retention and will keep an impressive edge sharpness.

Ease of Care

Normal care instructions apply as always - rinse and dry after use and no dishwashers but other than that you've got a nice low maintenance stainless knife thanks to the silver 3 core and stainless cladding. Easy!

For longer term care and maintenance we'd recommend a Japanese knife care kit which has everything to keep your knife in top condition.

Our Verdict

We're delighted to be able to stock Satoshi san's knives, they're an exceptional blade at a very competitive price point but it's a knife that's beautifully made and finished and represents top quality work from Nakagawa san.

The Silver 3 is a great steel for durability and ease of care and in Satoshi Nakagawa, you're buying a knife from a supremely skilled blacksmith that's going to last you many years.
