About this range

First Impressions

Straight out of the box the SG2 feels impressive and sharp, and in all fairness you'd expect nothing else from someone who's well known for his sharpening and finishing work on Konosuke's FM Fujiyama line.

Beauty

This is Myojin's first line of knives made and marketed under his own name and it's clear he's got a real eye for subtle beauty and understated style which is what makes him such an exciting blacksmith to follow.

The kasumi finish is delicate and the tapers down to the  polished SG2 core draws the eye the length of the blade and paired with a classic teak handle we think these are some great looking knives for sure.

In Hand

The finish is something that's a level above many knives and the subtle rounding off of the edges along the spine and heel just feel quality and show why you're buying a knife from someone who has a great deal of skill and experience in this area and who has worked on some very impressive knives already in his career.

Durability

SG2 is a great choice and popular among many blacksmiths for its ability to take and retain and edge and it's easy to recommend it as one that's going to perform for a long time.

Ease of Care

The SG2 core steel is finished to an impressive 62-63HRC and will retain its edge and performance for a long time between sharpening. Beyond that, just follow our normal care instructions and this knife will last as long as you need it!

The knives in this collection are treated with a protective lacquer on the blades which we recommend you remove before using on food. This can be done by rubbing with acetone on some cotton wool until you can no longer see the rainbow coloured coating.

Our Verdict

We're very impressed with the overall finish and obvious quality of Myojin's work when you take into consideration his relatively young age and that currently he's perhaps best known for his work as a very skilled sharpener.

His personal ambitions are to spend more time learning and creating knives as this enables him to create even better knives and so it's exciting to stock these knives which are sure to become highly sought after as his brand and personal collection of knives increases.

This is a high quality range that boasts an excellent finish and edge profile thanks to Myojin's existing sharpening experience and skill.
