First Impressions

Knives from Satoashi Nakagawa always impress. The subtle design and profile are then sharpened by Morihiro-san providing excellent performance out of the box with the knife gliding through food with ease.

Beauty

Much like Nakagawa-san's Silver 3 range, the migaki finish across these blades is very refined and has a subtle beauty and consistency that is easy to appreciate and enjoy.

We've chosen to pair these wonderful blades with ebony and white buffalo horn handles to offer a darker contrast to the blades. We'd say the blades are understated but if you're looking for subtlety and a very high quality finish  then you're in luck!

In Hand

When you first pick up one of these knives, you'll notice they're heavier than similarly sized knives. This is in part because the blades are made slightly taller and retain their spine thickness before tapering at the kiritsuke tip.

It's also because we've chosen to fit them with the classy ebony and white buffalo horn handles so the denser ebony wood contributes not just to the incredible looks but also to the weight a little and you'll find the balance point is just around the heel of the blade and so remains very nimble in hand.

Durability

The blue #2 core is treated to 63±1 HRC and so offers excellent edge retention and it's clad in soft iron which is a classic and often used combination for Japanese knives offering a good balance between robustness and edge retention.

Ease of Care & Maintenance Tips

Follow our normal care and carbon steel guidelines and store your knives properly and you'll enjoy using this for years.

Our Verdict

This is an excellent blade that's beautifully made and finished and represents top quality work from Nakagawa san.

If you're looking for a slightly higher level of clearance than most gyuto and perhaps also prefer a knife with more of feel of weight in hand while remaining nimble then this is fantastic one to add to your shortlist.
