A versatile cleaver that's easy to handle and capable of a lot of chopping power!

First Impressions

It's fair to say this one is "rustic" in its fit although the blade is well made and offers the heft and sharpness you would want in a cleaver.

In Hand

The handle fit isn't great, it's something we've factored into the pricing and something you'll need to decide on how much it might bother you but beyond that, it's definitely a cleaver for someone who just cares about the chopping power.

Durability

The SK5 is well ground and there's no real worry that it's not going to smash through harder prep jobs and bone while being nicely ground for finer jobs should you want.

It should keep a good edge without compromising on the durability you need in a cleaver.

Ease of Care

Just follow our normal care and carbon steel care tips and you'll be good.

We recommend an occasional dab of camellia oil to help protect the blade over time.

Our Verdict

This one is a tale of two parts.

The blade is great, a solid, well ground and impressively sharp SK5 steel that performs well and will hold an edge nicely paired with a Western shaped wooden handle.

Overall, good blade, less than perfect handle fit but still good value if you want a sturdy and sharp cleaver in your kitchen arsenal!

Protection & care for this knife

For storage you can use a santoku sized blade guard to protect the cutting edge of the knife although obviously this will not cover the full height of the blade.
