What knife type is an all rounder?

Many people will have a number of different kitchen knives designed for specific jobs and in some cases a particular shape knife is an essential tool for a specific job but if you're starting your collection you'll most likely find that the all rounder in the shape of a gyuto, santoku, bunka or even a funayuki is a great knife that cover the widest range of tasks before you need to become more task specific.

What are the common features all rounder chef knives?

You will find most chef knives for all round use tend to be around 165-240mm in blade length and normally feature a flatter part towards the heel for push and pull cutting with a subtle curve up to a pointed tip for intricate work. They will of course feature a sharp edge and most are ground with an even double bevel for left and right handed use.
