About this range

First Impressions

Absolutely beautiful. The various Kagekiyo ranges from Baba Hamono are traditional Sakai style knives entirely forged and sharpened by hand and fitted with a selection of equally high quality handles.

With a subtle distal taper and a slightly hollow grind these knives perform exceptionally well with smooth slicing and cutting across the range.

Every part of the Kagekiyo range is made by a master craftsman and shows Baba Hamono's philiosophy and commitment to preserving the traditional style and quality of Sakai knives.

Beauty

These knives ooze class, the subtle finishing touches are everywhere from the bevelled spine and rounded heel to the diagonal hairline migaki finish on the carbon cladding running down to that delightful kasumi finish is of the highest quality.

Depending on your selection the blade is then complimented with a top quality handle made and finished by hand for each blade.

In Hand

The exceptional geometry of the knives across the range is testament to the skill of the artisans who work on the knives and across the range and sizes they're nimble, lightweight in hand and very well balanced.

The red lacquer finish on two sides of the Akaro handle give just a little extra smoothness in hand and of course add a bit of visual punch too.

Durability

The White #1 core has been hardened to approximately 64±1 providing a high level of durability and edge retention for such a thin edge.

Ease of Care

This range is a full carbon knife with a White #1 core steel clad in carbon so will be reactive across the blade.

Please follow our carbon care tips and we recommend a carbon steel care kit for longer term maintenance.

Our Verdict

We're delighted to stock Kagekiyo knives, from the moment we met Baba Hamono we enjoyed hearing about their philiosophy, company and how they work to preserve Sakai knife making traditions and styles.

The White #1 is forged by Yoshikazu Tanaka and then sharpened in house by Baba Hamono's team and the result is an extremely high quality range of knives made in a traditional Sakai style and profile that are fantastic value for money given their quality.
