First Impressions

We'll cut to the chase (ahem..) with these knives. They look incredible, the swirling finish and cladding line looks amazing.

There's more to them than pretty looks though.

Beauty

If looks play a significant part in your knife buying process then you're in for a treat. The Zanpa has a great finish, it's visually striking but not over the top, the simple and classy octagonal oak handle is a nice pairing with the blade.

These are definitely some fine looking knives.

In Hand

They're light, well finished and benefit from attention to detail with a subtly rounded edge on the spine and a nice smoothing inside the heel of the blade so once you've got one in hand, it's nimble and there are no rough edges or rustic finishes to worry about.

Durability

AUS10 clad in stainless is a real "no brainer" if you're looking for easy care and sharpening. The Zanpa is impressively sharp out of the box but for the enthusiast there's still scope for a little polish on a high grit stone to take it up a notch if you want to.

Ease of Care & Maintenance Tips

Stainless and hardened to around 61-62 HRC it's a durable and robust knife that's easy to care for if you follow our normal care instructions.

Our Verdict

Ease of care, a durable and robust and without doubt a fabulous looking knife the Zanpa is a perfect choice for either a first Japanese knife or a striking addition to an existing collection.

Note: These knives are supplied to us under the Tsunehisa brand and listed as such on the site although they are made by Haruyuki so you may also see them referred to by this name elsewhere.
