First Impressions

Impressive out of the box thanks to the sharpening work of Myojin Tateo that compliments Tamura Toru's forging, this is a range of well designed and finished blades across all the different sizes and profiles.

Beauty

More often than not, single bevel knives have a polished finish so it's nice to see something a little different here and the kurouchi finish on the underside of the knife paired with a very subtle tsuchime finish.

They're great looking knives that retain a nice visual connection with the forging process.

In Hand

There's a definite feeling of significant weight throughout the range and in hand they feel sturdy - ready to tackle anything but remain well balanced and easy to work with.

Durability

Blue #2 is a common and reliable choice for a lot of knives because of its durability, ease of care and edge retention properties and there's not much to worry about here when you work with one of these knives - they're built to last.

Ease of Care & Maintenance Tips

Follow our normal care and carbon steel guidelines and store your knives on a magnetic rack and you'll enjoy using this for years.

Our Verdict

The blue #2 single bevel is a great collaboration from Hatsukokoro, they've created a good looking knife that is impressive right out of the box thanks to the finishing of Myojin san.

They're right handed only but if you're looking for a quality single bevel knife made from a classic steel and soft iron combination it's easy to work with, care for and holds an edge well so yet another collection and collaboration for Hatsukokoro to be proud of and you to enjoy.
