First Impressions

Wow! This is a big knife, the Komorebi has been designed to provide additional height for those who prefer a taller knife and it's instantly noticeable they're a taller profile and a relatively thick knife along the spine but that tapers to the excellently finished edge that has been hand finished on natural stones.

Beauty

In Hatsukokoro's words, "Komorebi is an untranslatable word, which eloquently captures the effect of sunlight streaming through the leaves of the trees. The shadow created on the ground, or even in our curtains, describes this everyday beauty".

It's hard to put it more poetically, this is an understated knife once you get past its size but there's a lot of visual depth to it and it will patina and age magnificently.

In Hand

In hand, the knife is comfortable and well balanced but of course given its a taller profile you can feel that extra height and it's nice to have the additional clearance for larger items.

Durability

You'll have no problems with long term use, the 3 layer blue #2 core and cladding construction provides a durable edge and will patina nicely with use over time.

Ease of Care & Maintenance Tips

Follow our normal and carbon steel and general care tips and this is a knife you'll enjoy for many years.

Our Verdict

If you've been looking for a bigger gyuto and extra height clearance then this is undoubtedly one to consider. The finish is excellent and the attention to detail is clear to see and right out of the box you can feel the natural stone finish that's been applied.

There's no doubt it's priced at a very competitive point with some significant and high profile premium knives as its competition but it doesn't feel out of place as a knife you might look to invest in for your heaviest use.
