About this range

First Impressions

The VG10 Atelier is a knife line made in partnership between Hatsukokoro and one of the specialist workshops that are part of one of Japan's biggest knife makers and shows all the signs of skilled hands in the hand forged laser profile, stylish damascus and kurouchi design and excellent performance at a superb price point.

Beauty

Great looks and style, everything is subtle and understated from the light kurouchi finish to the damascus layering and mirror polished core steel edge this is a range that just oozes class and style.

In Hand

A real laser in performance and excellent cutting performance all round. It's also nice to see the small touches and attention to detail in the smooth finishing of the heel and spine of the knife adding to the comfort.

Durability

The hand forged VG10 core has been treated to around 61-62HRC, slightly harder than most machine forged VG10 blades so the additional durability and edge retention is a nice feature on the Atelier range.

Ease of Care

VG10 with stainless cladding is one of the easiest combinations for general care and maintenance. It's easy to sharpen and for longer term care we recommend our Japanese knife care kit to keep it in top condition.

Our Verdict

Excellent value for money and superbly made lasers.

While we are not able to promote the maker Hatsukokoro have teamed up with to make these knives, keen knife users will almost certainly recognise them and appreciate the quality and value and if you've been looking for a laser profile and easy to maintain steel then you should absolutely be looking at these for your shortlist.
