First Impressions

This is a selection of knives that makes a serious first impression on every level, the incredible thickness and taper of the spine and profile that narrows to a trademark Nigara Hamono thin edge and a damascus finish that's out of this world.

Beauty

These are stunning knives, Nigara Hamono push the envelope in a lot of their lines but if you want something that's as much talking point as it is performance tool then look no further.

The matt nashiji finish on the cladding is rustic and natural and the dark damascus layering is beautifully highlighted by the etching process.

The standard range is fitted with a dark birch and white spacer octagonal wa handle.

In Hand

This is a range of knives that not unsurprisingly has a significant feeling of heft when you hold them. Across the range they're a very thick profile and spine but they feel well balanced and taper quite agressively from just above the heel so that weight is well distributed.

The larger wedge shape profile does give good food release in most ingredients although we did note in our testing that in some denser vegetables there was a bit of wedging as the extreme thickness was perhaps not as beneficial as a thinner profile knife would be so you might wish to take this into account if you work with a lot of denser foods.

Durability

A Silver 3 core clad in stainless is a becoming a more common combination thanks to its edge retention quality, overall robustness and ease of care.

Ease of Care & Maintenance Tips

You'll find Silver 3 holds an edge well and is generally easy to sharpen so just follow our normal care instructions and we'd suggest checking out a knife care kit for longer term maintenance.

Our Verdict

An incredible statement piece in terms of design and finish but one that's still absolutely designed for use. The Silver 3 core is easy to sharpen and maintain and Nigara Hamono's skill in crafting knives that remain thin behind the edge despite the overall extremely thick profile remains as impressive as ever.

It's easy to be swayed by the looks but you can be reassured that the performance is there too!
