Takamura Hamono SG2 Gyuto 210mm

A classic mid-sized laser of a gyuto from Terukazu Takamura. An absolute delight to cut with and an eye catching red pakka wood Western handle combine to make a light and nimble knife that's going to make light work of a lot of food prep!

Note: The Takamura "Unbranded" is exactly the same knife as the "Official" but has been sourced from a different supplier and only difference is that it does not have the Takamura kanji engraved one side. Other than this, it is the same knife and is sold in the same official Takamura box/pacakging.

First Impressions

You only need to look at the profile of the SG2 to see it's exceptionally sharp right out of the box and just a few cuts will confirm that this is a real laser with excellent cutting power.

It's smooth and just glides through food.

Beauty

The full tang red pakka wood handle pairs nicely with the highly polished migaki finish and it's absolutely a great looking knife - classy, understated but very obviously high quality in every respect.

In Hand

The Western handle shape is just right, light and nimble in hand it's very comfortable and the fit and finish around the integrated bolster are of a high standard.

Durability

Takamura knives are highly regarded for their edge retention and the laser grind and SG2 steel make for a great cutting experience.

Finished to an impressive 62-63HRC it will retain its edge and performance for a long time between sharpening.

Ease of Care & Maintenance Tips

Very easy to care for, SG2 is stainless, durable and retains an edge well so follow our normal care guide and perhaps consider storing your knife on one of our magnetic racks when not in use.

Our Verdict

The Takamura SG2 sits in a very competitive price bracket with a lot of great knives and although competition is stiff, this is absolutely a knife to consider, especially if you're looking for a real laser profile.

The overall sharpness and edge retention is very impressive right out of the box and the Western handle on this range is both comfortable and well balanced so overall - definitely worthy of being on your shortlist when it comes to checkout time!
