Our in-depth range review

First Impressions

You only need to look at the profile of the knife to see it's exceptionally sharp right out of the box and just a few cuts will have you looking for more food to prep!

Beauty

The tsuchime finish is quite subtle but still eye catching and tapers off into a well polished edge and is paired with a classy full tang black pakka wood handle.

In Hand

The Western handle shape is just right, light and nimble in hand it's very comfortable and the fit and finish around the integrated bolster are of a high standard.

Durability

Takamura knives are highly regarded for their edge retention and the laser grind and the VG10 version of this knife will provide a good balance between care and durability.

Ease of Care & Maintenance Tips

Our Verdict

This is a knife you need to add to your basket right now.

Takamura knives are fantastically made, finished beautufilly and offer an impressively thin profile and level of sharpness out of the box that you'd expect to pay a lot more for so when it comes to value, there are few better.

The knife was a present for my son who is a keen cook. He loved it, light and does the job he said.

Takamura Hamono VG10 petty; strongly recommend

If looking at this knife just buy it. Period. Astonishing performance for the price point.

Amazing tip for detail work. Amazing grind and profile: slices through hard produce like squash with authority; can skin an iron skinned pumpkin with ease (better than my more stout sabaki I have previously used for the job) - great for things like peppers and tomatoes also (delicate flesh but with skin resistance).

Not something to pamper even though it is a fine object; used mostly domestically but have put it through a more industrial level service (for a school charity cook out); performed very well, stayed sharp throughout.

In the hand it is still a little too large for exclusively off the board work if doing so for extended periods of time; but remarkably more nimble than other 150 petty's I have.

For this price point I cant imagine a better knife. I pair it with a nakiri or short gyuto for my home cooking; as stainless it is something than can be used and put down without worry. Outperforms other pettys I have used from the lower price point (kai wasabi, yamashin white no.1, global). Dices onions like a boss (skinny tip wonders). Easy to hone and sharpen. Honestly a great knife.

To repeat my opener: If looking at this knife just buy it. Period. Astonishing performance for the price point.
