A beautiful right handed, single bevel deba knife made by Yauji Yoshihiro under the watchful eye of master blacksmith Hideo Kitaoka.


The deba is specifically designed to make short work of fish so its a thick, heavy and sharp knife that will power through whatever is in front of it. 


Not just functional, it's also beautiful. On one side is an intricate pattern and the exposed layering as the single bevel tapers down to the cutting edge and on the back is the functional and undecorated size that does the work.


With all deba knives, they can be a little unwieldy due to their thickness and relative weight but it's balanced out nicely with a large, oversized handle that's in proportion with the blade and offers good mobilty while manouvering the blade through the fish.


The deba is a massive knife, it's designed for durability and butchering fish (and other protiens) so the thickness, weight and Blue #2 steel all contribute to an extremely durable knife designed for a specific task.

Ease of care

The Blue #2 will develop a patina with use so care instructions for reactive steel can be found below. 

One thing we will note when owning and storing a deba is because of their significant weight, please take care when putting it on a magnetic rack as it may slip if the rack has any hollow spots between magnets.

Value for money

The deba is a specific knife for a particular job so if your prep work requires it then it's a good investment that's going to make your job easier. 

It's a very well made and finished knife and the design and production is based on the same knives Hideo Kitaoka has been making for many years and has now passed to his highly skilled apprentice. 

It's a heck of a lot of knife (literally and figuratively!) for the money.
