First Impressions

Like the other knives in Hatsukokoro's lineup, the Silver 3 shares a common profile that is very much that of a laser. The entire line is very thin and out of the box feels like a quality blade.

Beauty

The blades have a traditional migaki finish on the cladding running down to the silver 3 core steel and Hatsukokoro make more use of machine tech for things like engraving the kanji on this collection which gives a nice feel for consistency across the range.

Because the blade is a little more on the understated side, we've paired them with some of Hatsukokoro's maple colour handles available in a range of choices just give them just a little extra pizzazz!

In Hand

This is a laser of a knife and as such the blade is very light, when paired with the relatively lightweight maple handles the overall feel is for a very light knife so they're extremely nimble and most certainly for those who prefer a lightweight knife in hand.

Durability

A Silver 3 core clad in stainless is a becoming a more common combination thanks to its edge retention quality and ease of care.

This range is hardened to 60±1HRC so isn't quite as hard as the HAP40 for example but offers a more forgiving edge with a lower risk of chipping but you would need to sharpen a little more often than higher hardness knives.

Ease of Care & Maintenance Tips

You'll find Silver 3 holds an edge well and is generally easy to sharpen so just follow our normal care instructions and we'd suggest checking out a knife care kit for longer term maintenance.

Our Verdict

As we've mentioned previously, the entire "Hayabusa" line is an impressive one from Hatsukokoro.

This range is an interesting combination of using new machine production tech and traditional sharpening and handle fitting is all done by hand.

There's a great level of consistency across the knives in the range thanks to the use of more modern machinery which allows Hatsukokoro to keep initial production costs down without compromising on the finish which is done by hand.

If you're looking for a lightweight laser at an excellent price it's certainly a range you should consider.
