Shoichi Hashimoto is a Japanese blacksmith renowned for his mastery of Damascus steel, bringing an artistic sensibility to every knife he creates. With a background in fine art and metalwork from Hiroshima City University, Hashimoto's early training fused traditional forging techniques with a deep understanding of visual form and materials. His work stands out not only for its sharpness and function, but for the depth of character in his patterned steel, which reflects both his academic roots and hands-on craftsmanship.
In recent years, Hashimoto has become especially known for his unique kitchen knives, particularly Gyuto and coreless Damascus pieces. His distinctive forging methods produce intricate, layered designs—often drawing from natural textures and motion—while maintaining a keen cutting performance. Collaborations with top sharpeners like Naohito Myojin help bring each blade to its full potential.
